One Legged King Pigeon Pose/Mermaid Pose/Eka Pada Rajakapotasana. Step by Step Instructions to perform Mermaid Pose.
Begin this yoga pose by downward dog pose.
Place your wrists directly under your shoulders and knees under your hips. Your wrists should be parallel to your mat. Spread your fingers wide and turn your toes under. Bend your knees by reaching your right leg high to downward dog split.
Roll your right shin forward towards the mat. Make it as parallel to the front of the mat. Then, lower your hips to the ground.
Take care that:
There should be no compression in the back.
Your right knee does not have to be 90 degrees.
Keep your balance by putting weight on your right hand and take your left hand straight back parallel to your left leg. Bend your back(left) leg from knees and put it on your left elbow. Keep your fingers reaching up.
Now take your right hand upward straight and bend it to the elbow . See where you can find your left hand fingers, behind your head. Turn your head to the position where your right knee is facing. Hold it for 4-5 seconds for beginners.
Release your hand, relax your left foot. Fold your upper body little to the ground. Allow your head to touch the ground. Relax your body for 2-3 seconds.
